Mmmm!!! Looking for a good south Indian restaurant? Stop by Taste of Kerala! I had always heard about Taste of Kerala, but by not living that far east, had never tried it. We recently were that way, and decided, hey, let's stop in and try Taste of Kerala! It's a small place- no place to even sit down. They have some sweets in the display case, and a small menu. We were greeted right away with smells of Indian food...mmmmm. As it's all to-go, we ordered a chicken briyani, a curry, and some samosas. They asked us what spice level... and thinking we could take it, we said "medium." We went home and tried the food...omg, so good!!! But whew, it was spicy- we definitely should get mild next time. haha. But the food is hot, fresh, and really good- I highly recommend going to Taste of Kerala if you're craving some good Indian food!

Simply amazing. I wish they had a sit in restaurant.. As I I would order one of everything. Chicken biryani and daal wada were phenomenal. Ordered over the phone and it was ready when arrived!

This place should be very authentically Kerala. I'm not Indian so I can't claim the expertise in judging the cuisine. We mentioned some dishes to our Indian friend without saying the restaurant name. His immediate response was "this places sounds very Kerala". All I know is, after I discovered this place, I stopped going to Cafe Tandoor. The latter seems generic and Americanized in comparison, even to this non-Indian. I'm addicted to their Appam and Dosa. They are made from fermanted rice dough. Appam is a Kerala specialty. Dosa is southern Indian. For newbies: If you're overwhelmed by lots of exotic names on the menu and can't decide which one to start with, consider their Thali. It's a platter of many small items so you get to try a variety. They do not make Mutter Paneer, because it is a northern Indian specialty. I get it from Cleveland Tiffin in North Randall. About 8 miles from here. The pictures in Gallery on their website were somewhat helpful when I started. However there are only a handful of pics. The best way to get to know any cuisinary culture is to taste it. There's no problem with parking, however they only have one couch in the establishment. So order it to go, or eat it at the Sonic Drive-through next door. I've never done it...let me know how it goes. Lakshmi Plaza is an Indian grocery store two minutes away by foot. Walk past Yeleseyevsky and you'll see it.

By far the best Indian food I've had in Cleveland. Authentic spices, retaining the original flavor unlike most buffet restaurants, taste of Kerala's food is very much like home-made. Not many restaurants here serve chapattis, so I hopped in here to take a chance and to my surprise they reminded me of my mom's chapattis, soft and thin. They prepare it fresh, so you have to wait 25 min for your order but its completely worth your time and money. Lassi wasn't that great, but entrees are superb. I highly recommend them to all who are looking for authentic Indian food.

Seriously, I have no idea why people gave this place such high reviews. I ordered fish curry which was very stiff and looked faded. The curry itself was just water with no real consistency. The samosa was edible. My coworker ordered chicken curry with rice and could barely eat half. All it did was fill our mouths with a nasty stench. Ive have tons of indian food in NYC, this was crap. Atleast it was cheap but not worth it. I have no idea who are all these people with high ratings, is there a company that people pay to write good yelp reviews for them??

I get the best Mutter Paneer Biryani and Mango Lassi here. The Payasam they make is superb. Would definitely go back again.

I was so excited to try butter chicken from here because the reviews are overall positive. However, when I took my order to go I opened it up to find something other than butter chicken. It was not bad, but it wasn't very good either (green chicken with peas). My friend ordered the chicken korma and she also received this green chicken with peas instead of that. We were both disappointed that they had mixed up our order and we hadn't check it before leaving. Also skip the chicken puffs, they are extremely dry. The naan was small and just meh. Overall, would not go back, but the food was not horrible. I was just very disappointed with the mixed up order, green chicken, and small naan.

From but not limited to South Indian cuisine from the state of Kerala, comes this take out spot. It has a vegetarian and non vegetarian daily menu with added daily special meals. The predecesor of the east Cleveland suburbs Indian restaurants opened since 2011, if memory serves me right. Everything ive eaten here has been delicious. Good portions and great prices. Mini thali of rice or noodles with chilly chicken and curry chicken and chutney with coconut flavored cabbage. Biryanis of different kind and heat level. Surprise dishes include Butter chicken, garlic chicken, eggplant masala, chicken korma, okra masala, tomato chicken, califlower dishes, etc. And a delish gulab jamun (fried donut-like balls in a cardamon infused syrup) or payasams are available to sweeten the palate. Mango lassi drinks as well.

Love the panner biryani here. The samosas are good. Haven't tried too many things here. But a great place to take out.

Best Indian restaurant in Cleveland. My husband was a regular when he was living in Cleveland. He got me here and I love it. Food is authentic South Indian.

Had an amazing meal today, brought me back memories of being in South India. Super friendly staff!! We were just passing through on a road trip but will keep it in mind for future trips. Get the samosas, you won't regret it.

  • Bender R.

You could discount my review, given that I've only been here two times, but it might still be informative. Every time I've had the samosas, and each time had major indigestion. Maybe something in the oil? The biryani was almost average, and the chicken dishes (korma, butter, tikka masala) were below average. But by no means is this in the lowest 5% of indian establishments I've been to, so two stars. It's adequate, though makes me pay afterwards so no three stars. Maybe I was unlucky? Nonetheless, I won't be returning to find out.

I have been meaning to go to this place for a while, but it can be inconvenient since I live downtown and this place is takeout only. However, after going to the east side for work one day, I seized the opportunity to go for lunch. I highly recommend this place! It looks like a random hole in the wall from the outside, but the food is delicious. I ordered a paneer dish and some paratha on the side. Both were delicious. The paratha were smaller, but thicker, and in multiple layers. So good. I did see some interesting items on the menu, like goat, that I'll have to come back for. Highly recommend!

We were looking for a place on July 4th and they were one of the only places open. So we ordered chicken tikka masala, samosas and lamb curry. Everything was so flavorful plus somehow we ened up with a beef biryani which was amazing too. Over all we will definitely be going back.

Went to Taste of Kerala and experienced some fine South Indian cuisine! We ordered the Chicken Korma, nice slight sweet & savory action, Chicken Biryani, available in 3 levels and we got the spicy, Palak Paneer, samosas and some Puffs.... Yes it was an Indian feast to say the least!!! The Chicken Korma was fantastic! Slightly sweet yet savory with a hint of spiciness. We got the Korma with some flat breads, actually i believe each order comes with 3 big flatbreads, delish! The amount of food was reasonable in comparison to the price, which came to just under $7. Chicken Biryani was spicy, just as we like it! Huge chunks of chicken thighs hidden within the mountain of rice! Nicely spiced and right amount of heat counterbalanced with the cooling raita on the side. Unfortunately the raita was a bit runny, probably due to the heat of the biryani since it was placed in the middle of the biryani, nonetheless... It was good! Pallak Panneer has a good amount of Paneer chunks, just as we like it! Not spicy at all, which was good considering the heat from biryani is definitely more than enough. We also ordered some samosas and received a couple of extra chicken puffs and egg puffs. The samosas were good, but the egg puffs were awesome! Rich, buttery and flaky pastry with savory egg and (i think) meat filling... Yummm!!!! Would definitely get more of these the next time! All in all it was definitely a good feast for under $25 since we get the Puffs as service and we will definitely come back! This place is highly recommended... My only regret was not getting the mango lassi.... Don't know what I was thinking... But will get some the next time! Highly recommended!!!

I was recommended to this place by a co-worker. It's a hole in the wall with nowhere to sit and it takes a while for them to make your food, so calling ahead is a must. I got their signature dish but a goat version instead as it was a special and I was feeling adventurous. The Goat meat was tough as nails and I wish I hadn't ventured onto it. The flavor in the rice and sauce were quite good, and the samosa's were spot on, but the goat meat was really hard to eat. I'll probably give it another try, they give you plenty for the price and there aren't a ton of good Indian spots in Cleveland, but I am not in a huge rush.

Me and my sweetheart stumbled upon this place while we were driving down mayfield. We were more than impressed! We walked in just to check out the menu and pricing but the staff was so friendly and hospitable we decided to get some food. We ordered two different take out dishes recommended by the staff (goat curry and goat biryani). The food was delicious and they actually made it extra spicy like we asked them to. Both dishes together were under $20.The restaurant looks like it is geared more towards take out but its very clean, well lit and decorated nicely. Great food and service at a great price. Cant beat that!

take out is excellent. prices are good. naan & veggie biryani were good. good spice. friendly service (called in order), order hot and ready on time. no complaints (except it's too far from my work).

Very good food, and probably the nicest restaurant owners I've ever met. I came in for the first time largely unsure of what to order and they recommended amazing options to me. While we waited they allowed us to sample some snacks and really made us feel welcome.

  • B P.

I've only been here once. I had the mattar paneer biryani... Perfectly spiced but the paneer was a little dried out. It didn't have any veggies which was disappointing. I suspect the dry paneer and lack of vegetables was due to me coming in close to closing time. I'll give it another try. The staff was helpful and friendly. Restaurant looked clean. Carry-out only.

I eat here multiple times a week and will continue to do so. The staff is very friendly, the food is quick and delicious. I highly recommend the Butter Chicken or the Chicken Tikka Masala. The Chipathi is always warm and fresh. Love this place!

This place is legit. They forego the finetuning of flavors that cater to the American palate, and if you don't notice from the smell alone, it will definitely hit you when you take your first bite. Let's start from the beginning though. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted with smiles from the family and the main man listing off the specials for the day: goat biryani or vegetarian curry chappathy. My eyes lit up, and I immediately went for the goat biryani with medium spice (and two samosas for good measure). He smiled and nodded, whispered over to an older gentleman (probably his father), and they both disappeared into the back. I take my seat and wait, and the older gentleman comes back out and gives me a complimentary sample of four pakora balls. WIN. They were probably fried earlier in the day given the slight toughness to them, but they were still amazing and perfectly seasoned, and I will definitely order them if they're ever on the menu. The goat biryani was extremely flavorful, and oh yeah, very spicy. I can handle my spice but I would probably go with mild from now on so I can enjoy the other flavors. The dish was drier than I expected but the creamy sauce helped. My biggest complaint would have to be that while some of the meat was tender, other pieces were obviously recooked because they were tough and burnt. As for the samosas, I've had better but these were still good. Overall it was a very good experience and I will definitely return to try everything else. I just wish they had a bigger menu. Oh, and a tip jar.

Stopped for dinner on a Friday evening. The menu on the wall has vegetarian and non-veg selection. I wanted to know more about a few dishes and the manager was more than happy to explain them in detail! He just sounded so happy and proud to share his food- it made the decision even harder (I guess I'll have to go back to try more). I ended up with the Goat Korma. Even though it comes with flat bread, I wanted to try their Naan so I ordered that too. I also got two samosas. I ordered the goat spicy and the manager asked if I was sure. I had a seat and waited about 8 minutes for the order to be ready. When I got home to eat, everything was delicious! I'm guessing that the manager might not wanted to have scared me off with too much spice because the dish did not pack the spice punch I had hoped for - delicious nonetheless. Both breads were tasty and the samosas were flakey. I'm definitely going back!

Taste of Kerala is a GREAT value. Its a excellent option for dinner/lunch if you don't feel like cooking and want something quick and homecooked. Super cheap, you can have dinner with leftovers for $10 or less. I tried the chicken biryani and a samosa. The samosa was excellent. The biryani was good and I would order it again. I would describe it as a feel good, hits the spot type of meal. Its a very casual informal TAKEOUT ONLY type of place. Samosa gets 5 stars Chicken Biryani a solid 3.5 stars.

This is one of my favorite Indian places to get food from in Cleveland. First, let me start off by saying this is a place owned by South Indians, and yes there is a distinction in cuisine. But if you haven't had much exposure to Indian food, you probably wouldn't have noticed (kudos to you for trying a new type of cuisine!). There are plenty of vegetarian options here, as well as meat options on the menu to choose from. I have family from India, so I definitely had my fair share of Indian food (not to mention Pakistani and Bengali food as well). I may not be a real "Desi" per se, but let's just say I know what good Indian food tastes like. Although Cleveland doesn't have many Indian restaurants, I'm very happy that a place like Taste of Kerala exists. My favorite items to order from here is the chicken biriyani and chappthy with chicken curry! But I've also tried: chilly chicken, chicken 65, chick peas curry, and of course their snack items- samosa, chicken puffs and parippu vada. In the chicken curry you can taste the wonderful coconut oil used while making the dish! Be warned that they can make their dishes pretty spicy, so if you aren't used to the level of heat, ask them for mild!! Also be warned this IS A CARRYOUT place, so don't expect to eat here! I will be back here for food, no doubt...and probably in the near future! yummm!

Love me a good spicy Indian dish...and I got it with the Chicken Biryani. The other reviewers are right...small portion of chicken. My boyfriend needed a fire extinguisher (he doesn't handle spicy well) for his Chicken Curry. The Chickpea curry side wasn't as spicy. The yogurt sauce with the Biryani was fantastic but somehow I got jipped on the Raita...bummer. Note to self: call in your order to avoid an extensive wait on a Friday night! Always a good sign to see Indian folks eating there...the food is really good but if you aren't a fan of spicy food, caveat emptor...

mmmmmm. so delicious, and so CHEAP! taste of kerala offers some tasty kerala indian food that differs from what most indian restaurants in cleveland offer. The chicken biryani is soo good and is served w/a raita yogurt sauce that helps cut the spiciness. i forget the name of the other dish we tried, but its a chicken curry thats in a really flavorful sauce. this place is so cheap, nothing is more thatn $7, and it's takeout only. they have your order ready really fast. this place is a must try!

This is a love letter to Taste of Kerala. I ate their take away food for lunch for three days in a row while my mother was in nearby Hillcrest Hospital. The first day, I was hoping for a masala dosa, and even though it was not on the menu that day, they made one for me. The dosa was delicious, the sambar fiery hot and the coconut chutney comforting and cooling. The next day, I ordered off the specials board, an okra (bhindi) korma and chappatti--3 of them to soak of every drop of the hot, hot gravy. The third day, there was no specials board, and I asked the friendly owner, "what shall I have for lunch?" and he said he had a very nice chicken biriyani and I said, perfect. There was enough for both lunch and dinner. The tiny place is spotlessly clean, the food a bargain, and the owner so sweet, asking after my mother's health. This is not the home cooking of my real home (which was 1960s Eastern European bland) but of the home of my dreams. Thank you Taste of Kerala for providing the high point of my days during a very stressful time.

Taste of Kerala is a new establishment near the indian grocery store I frequently visit so I decided to check it out. It is take out only (you have an option to sit down if you really want to eat there, or you can go to the Sonic next door). I ordered samosa and biriyani. The food was delicious. As I have always said, food is the most important part of any restaurant. There are not many items on the menu to choose from and sometimes they have items that are ready but not on the menu. I enjoyed their biriyani and samosa a lot. I feel like the food is very good and the chef probably does not have much variety in his/her cooking but as long as what ever is served is delicious, I am going to be ordering.

The best place for south Indian food in Cleveland. I pick up dosa often from this place and they provide it for take out in a pizza box with sambar and chutney! Price is reasonable and every time I pick up food from here, it's like a feast. For take out food place this place has 5* dosa. I have tried other foods from here. Vada, fish curry, Gobi curry etc. All the curries are full of oil - they taste delicious but may not be really waist friendly. I freeze their curries at home and remove the oil layer as much as possible before eating. (This may not concern many people, but it is a bit of a deal for me. So for food = 5* Price = 5* Healthy options = 3* Over all great place to take out food!

So bad, no words to describe it! I don't understand the great reviews, Yelp you have failed me!! Perhaps it was an off day, but I asked for mild spice options, white chicken options. I was so frustrated that the guy taking the order just said "ok" and "sure" but obviously had no clue on the food. Also, when we got it, it was ALL SAUCE, barley any food. It was almost like we got served the day's leftovers (we ordered late before closing) and they though it would be ok with that. Shameful!

Indian food is my favorite, and even so I did not love this place. It was OK, but I feel like I visited a different place than other reviewers! Or maybe I just chose different dishes (I'm vegetarian and maybe this isn't the best for vegetarians). But I did LIKE it, enough to give it another chance from time to time. I tried a bunch of things: dosa (not always available?), samosa, veg puff, chickpea curry, sambar. THE GOOD: - Generous portions, very cheap, and ready quickly. Clean place with friendly service. - Somewhat different spices from other Indian food I've had. (I like variety so that's a good thing.) - Some unusual (to me) items: the curry, for instance, is served not with rice but with thin rice noodles (idiyappam--reminded me of certain Thai noodles). And the chutney with the dosa was an orange-tinted coconut chutney, different from the white or green I'm used to. - Good pastry items: dosa (large and well-stuffed), samosa (what you'd expect), and best of all the veg puffs: they are flaky and many-layered, something between a croissant and baklava. Very good. (But, like the samosas, dry if eaten alone, and served as near as I could tell without chutney. BYO chutney? But my dosa came with enough chutney to "share" with my other pastries.) - I forgot to ask, but I'm thinking this may be good for vegans: nothing gave me an impression of having dairy in it. (Sometimes Indian places are tough for vegans, with paneer and butter and heavy cream being so common.) THE MAYBE BAD, maybe just authentic and not my thing: - All sauces/chutney/broth/curry were super salty--it greatly dominated any other flavors. I like salt, but this is a place I'd go back to only when I have a major salt craving. (Which does happen!) Fillings in the pastries were not over-salted, just the sauces/curries and even the coconut chutney. (Salt and coconut? Hey, why not!) - The curry was very watery, not thick and creamy as I'm used to. (This was the chickpea curry.) It just drained to the bottom of the noodles leaving very little on the noodles or the chickpeas. BUT it may be vegan, which would be great--I didn't ask. - Everything was very mild, not as spicy as I'm used to with (some) Indian dishes. There were good spices and flavors (underneath the salt) but not spicy-hot. Again, all of that may simply be authentic kerala cooking, or may be perfect for your tastes. Just not mine. - THE BAD: - Massive packaging waste, and very little of it recyclable. Lots of small items came in separate boxes/bags when I'd have preferred they be combined into one or two big containers. Take-out always means some waste, but it doesn't have to mean THIS much waste, and it could be recyclable. Hopefully they will improve these practices, or I'll feel too guilty to return! - Very small menu, especially for vegetarians (two entrees, one I already know I don't like). - RECOMMENDATIONS: The dosa (daily special, not on the menu) and the veg puffs were the winners. The chickpea curry was so salty and watery that I wouldn't get it again--which means I'll be trying the thoran next time (which I assume is the same as "veg curry" on their menu). Definitely don't get a curry by itself, unless you want soup: it's that watery. Spring for the extra .50 and get a "combo" that serves it with noodles. I do intend to return and see how it is in a month or two. It wasn't exactly bad, it just didn't grab me the way Saffron Patch and others do.

If you're in the vicinity of Mayfield Heights and want to buy ingredients to make your own Indian food, the best thing to do is to go to Lakshmi Plaza. If you get to Lakshmi Plaza and realize that you don't feel like cooking anymore, what's the best thing to do? Walk to the next plaza and try Taste of Kerala. The restaurant does takeout only. Inside, there is only the register, a few chairs for waiting customers, and a display case that shows some of the restaurant's appetizers (e.g., samosas, vegetable puffs). The owners are very friendly and the food comes out fairly quickly. There isn't a huge selection of items on the standard everyday menu, but there are specials that change from day to day. Today, I ordered the chili chicken special, which was delicious. I ordered my food "moderately spicy" and thought it was actually moderately spicy, which isn't always the case with restaurants that have "spicy" food in Cleveland. Another selling point of this restaurant is the low average entree price, which is less than $10. All in all, this place is a great value. I'll definitely go back to Taste of Kerala when I'm in the area.

I frequently eat at Indian restaurants and I can say that this take out place is a cut above the rest. They have wonderful dishes that you cannot get at other places. The food is hot and spicy and if you need mild ask for no heat. This is the only restaurant anywhere around that uses fresh curry leaves, and you can taste the difference. Portions are adequate and the prices are great.

WOW! OMFG. My mouth just got laid! I have not had Indian food this good since I lived in the Marsol and my Indian friends would cook for me. It's southern Indian style. This is a carry out place. Lets just establish that! The menu is small but everything is prepared fresh. I came here on a Sunday. I asked if they had anything spicy. They said we have pepper chicken. I asked if it was spicy and the owner said it was. I asked if it was Indian Spicy? He said yes. I asked if it was made with jalapenos, He said no they are Indian hot peppers, similar to habenaro. Game on! I got the pepper chicken special with rice, and he gave me some chicken gravy to eat with the rice. It was very spicy but not too spicy. Perfect seasoning, My Chinese friend thought it was a little too spicy. I did not think to put anything on it! I think it was cooked with coconut oil. Yeah I said coconut oil and not coconut milk. The light and fluffy yellow rice was perfectly cooked. This was pretty dam good. It was like a Bollywood movie, always a happy ending! Oh BTW most dishes are 5-8 dollars!

I wish I had found this place when I first moved here! This is my kind of place: a small menu with perfectly made dishes prepared quickly and inexpensively with no frills. It will be on heavy rotation of places when I am too lazy to cook. The owners are nice and the food is perfect. I was so happy to find that nothing was lacking in flavor or spiciness. Yummmm!!! If you like this type of food, you can't go wrong here.

It's not just the best Indian food I've had in Cleveland (that's a low bar indeed especially on the East side) but it's some of the best I have ever had. LOVE it, LOVE it, LOVE it. I'm not good with spicy food and their stuff is often face melting hot but I power through. Why? Because the flavor payoff is worth it. The eggplant masala is my favorite and the dosas are divine. The chickpeas are great, so is the chicken chili, and the palak paneer... I could go on. Beware the vegetable pakoras. They are incredible but so hot you'll probably get light headed.

This is a great Southern Indian cusine location. It's as home made and as authentic as it can be. I like a place that cooks food as it intended to be and not modified to American taste. Everytime, I think of spicy food and curry I think of Kerala. This is a take out place only. I rather wait for my food as I know it's prepared to order. Definite place to go. Definitely you need to try the Bryiani Rice dish. Both the goat and chicken are really good.

It's gonna start looking like I'm handing out 5-star reviews left and right at this rate, but here is yet another Indian place about which I can't help but give praise. My brain is still recovering from how much it was exploded by this food. First of all, these guys are straight out of India. They're from Kerala, which is famous for its spices. The authenticity really comes through in the food, which is absolutely fantastic. It's insanely good. I felt like I was robbing the place, too, because the food is cheap! Just a quick note: although their menu is small, if you've got a hankering for some special dish, just ask if they know how to make it. Chances are they do, and they will, happily. When you walk in to the tiny little front room (it is, after all, carry-out only), you'll be greeted happily by some of the most awesome people I've met in some time. While we were waiting for our food we had an amazing conversation about India, where we have traveled, and all about the awesome food. They are really knowledgeable about their food and happy to share information about different Indian dishes. I really don't think I've ever had such an awesome, hospitable experience at any restaurant in my whole life. They also brought us free Pakoras while we were waiting and they were wonderful. Awesomely spiced, more potato-filled than most Pakoras I've had, but it made them taste a little less heavy. The food speaks for itself. I had a Masala Dosa (a special for the day) and the thing is so big they give it to you in a pizza box. It came with a colorful coconut-tasting, mildly spicy sauce and a medium-hot vegetable curry on the side. This is the real deal, folks. Holy crap, was it amazing. I feel saddened for every east-sider who has not yet experienced Taste of Kerala. Indian food at its finest, and absolutely the closest to India you can get while staying in Cleveland. We had people walk up to us while we were eating it and ask where we got it! You owe it to yourself to go here. You could probably dig enough change out of your car to pay for your whole lunch, and it is 100% fantastic.

I absolutely LOVE this place. The food is fresh, spicy and authentic. I've tried the chickpea curry, chicken biryani, veggie biryani, samosas, chicken puffs and veggie puffs. My favorite dishes, by far, are the samosas, which have just the right amount of spice, and the veggie biryani, which I order "mild", but is still pretty spicy, medium or hot....must be blazing! The only thing that would make this place better is if it were eat-in. Highly recommend!

Solid south indian food. Their Idli & Medhu vada are one of the best I've had from a restaurant. Tip: Call ahead and order so you don't have to wait.

Yummy Indian food!! It is a take out restaurant, clearly family run as evidenced by the high school aged girl who waited on me. Samosas were great as was chicken birnyani (sp?). We also enjoyed the beef "side dish", not sire of the actual name. Very pleased with the taste of the food and to be supporting yet another one of the "little guys" in my community. Spicy stuff but really really good for not a lot of $. Bravo!

I am more excited about this place existing than I have been about restaurants in Mayfield Heights in a long time since it is conveniently located and everything I've had so far has been great.

I was visiting Cleveland from the east coast which has lots of Indian Restaurants. I must say Cleveland is very lucky to have Taste Of Kerala cause the food is the real deal. The food is spice just like its done India not some water down american version like their competitors. Another clue to know how good this take-out joint, most of the customer are Asian. The owners are very friendly. The portion size is for individual, which may be the reason why it's so cheap. At first I didn't except much on spicy comments, so I took a bite of my samosa in my car wooooooo it's was blazing. I almost had to pull over to get a drink cause my mouth was exploding. I couldn't drive home fast enough to eat the rest. Taste-y spicy hot, NOT that burn your mouth can't taste anything afterward. Love Love the Chickpea curry so much I trying to duplicate the recipe via google-ing Kerala curries. This food is so good & cheap, they really need to get Food Truck & get downtown for Lunch time crowd, they would make a killing..

samosas are awesome, veggie puff pastrys were not so great but the real loser was the veggie birani. i asked her how long it would take to make and her response was "everything is already cooked i just need to mix it together" oh great i thought. the birani was spicy in a dry heat sort of way without any brightness. browned onions and what looked to be reheated green beans and carrots were strewn throughout and it was served with a pink yogurt sauce that was the only saving grace. Dryly hot and bland. avoid the birani.

hands down the best indian food in Cleveland, and i'd say fits along nicely with the indian food in New York City. just a small carry out joint with a small menu, but its all very well done, and for the price is probably the best quality ratio of anything in the city. everything tastes fresh, which is something i actually seldom notice in food. here, it comes through. i highly recommend the butter chicken and the chili chicken when they have it. there are a few things i was kind of disappointed about which is why i'm holding out on the last star. those being the "normal" rice they use, when i'm used to basmati or saffron rice, basmati rice being something even Kent State's rinky dink on campus indian place uses. and speaking of Kent State's little shop, the samosas are MUCH better. they're nice and fresh tasting again at Taste of Kerala, but i've come to expect a fairly spicy and well seasoned samosa instead of a pocket of straight potatos and chick peas. you can always dip it in the sauce, but nothin beats a well seasoned potato. but the chapati is lovely, and excellent for making an "indian burrito" other than that, everything is wonderful and you can get enough food for two meals what you would normally pay for one at a place like vicinato's. i always get carry out when i'm home for the weekend, and between this and India Flame the only real decision is which one is closer.

Some of the best Indian food I've ever had. The chicken and samosas are seasoned well and MOIST!! Nothing is over fried. My only caution is the heat! Medium has quite a kick. Overall a great place with friendly staff and delicious food. A must try!

A family friend from India picked this up for us one day--- We let him do the ordering, so I couldn't easily name what we ordered, but it was delicious! Very authentic Indian, prepared very quickly but without any takeout grossness! The menu was very small, but as someone who doesn't have a broad knowledge of Indian food, I recognized some old favorites, along with a few things I'd never heard of. Overall, I really liked Kerala, it's perfect for satisfying a craving for Indian food without having to worry about price.

Very good food, very authentic and nicely priced. You can alter the spice levels by requesting it when you place your order. Spicy is very spicy so be warned. Family owned by a very nice family. My favorite is the beef coconut, chapatis and the chicken puffs. Between my husband and I, we've tried basically the entire menu. Nothing really bad, we just have favorites!

Great place to order take-out. Good service, eager to please. Food is nice - generally order puffs along with a curry/biriyani. The chicken puff is somewhat unpredictable, but the egg puffs are consistently good. Mutton biriyani is out of this world.

Absolutely wonderful! Sublime flavors, not overdone, very fresh and an amazing value. Less than $8 for 2 samosas and a dinner entree. I'm so glad to see a place like this come to the neighborhood.

The Masala Dosa and Iddly are as good as it gets! I travel a lot and have had both of these dishes in Kerala, India as well as around the U.S. I was so happy to find this place and enjoy these dishes. Not to mention both people at the restaurant were incredibly friendly and kind. Truly a great experience.

This is the best Indian restaurant I've been too in the Cleveland area. It's a clean, small, carry-out only establishment with friendly, patient, and helpful staff. There is a small seating area for about 4 people, but it's best to call your order in ahead of time. The food is reasonably priced. It's cheaper than fast food places and you're paying for a real "homecooked" meal. My favorite dishes are the fish fry, samosa, all of the biryanis (I usually get vegetable, but the chicken is awesome also), and chicken 65.

Awesome takeout food - authentic South Indian flavors and spices- tender parotas and flaky chicken puffs- haven't had good Kerala food since I visited home. Food is prepared when you order so allow for 30-45 minutes of prep time before you pick up your order. The lassi is a little too sweet and spiced for my tastes- so stick with the main entrees and appetizers and you won't go wrong. My regular Sunday afternoon meal after church is a Chicken 65, or Chili chicken, parotas, puffs or pakodas- so that I have at least one more South Indian meal during the week- highly recommend the food. Now if they only served Kerala style coffee in a steel cup while you waited .... ;)

I was disappointed with the food here. I saw complaints about the place being small and not having tables, but it's very clearly marked as a take out restaurant, so manage your expectations. I ordered a mild vegetable biryani but the heat level was definitely medium, and this seems to be a problem for other yelpers too. It's hard to eat without yogurt/chutney. The chickpea curry was ok when mixed with the chutney provided, otherwise lacking in flavor. The dosa was so so because the potatoes were too big - they didn't have enough spice and weren't very flavorful. The coconut chutney was good. The price can't be beat - 3 orders = 6 meals for $17, but the taste is not enough for me to return. No problems with the service, I called in my order.

This place has the best mango lassi in Cleveland! They don't make it every day, but if you ask them, they may be willing to make some for you, even if they were not making them that day. The waiter and the owner were very nice too. Once I had a question about what carb goes better with a dish, and the waiter was not sure if he could answer me so he went inside and called the boss out - then the boss gave me a very long list of things that I can try. It was very helpful. This place is only a take out place so call maybe 30min ahead of time, and then you can go pick it up later. It is also pretty cheap, except the mango lassi - costs more than $3, but worth the money!

By no means do I consider myself a connoisseur of Indian food, but I've had the basics in a few different settings, from premade curry to takeout to sit down restaurants. So far, everything I've tried (mainly chicken dishes, I'll get adventurous soon) has been amazing. They've been very helpful in describing dishes that I wasn't particularly sure as to what was contained, and didn't make me feel stupid in the process. I'm in love with their Samosa, and the Biryani is to die for. I showed up 5 minutes before close one night, and they were still incredibly polite and I walked out with a killer meal. If I had one complaint, it'd be that there are no descriptions on their menu board. But as I stated earlier, they're very helpful with that. Very much a must try if you're in the Mayfield area.

Easily my favorite Indian eatery on the east side, the food here is great every time. Put it on your list of places to eat, it's that good. The menu isn't huge, but everything I've tried (which is almost all of it!) has been great. They do have a good selection of vegetarian dishes, for those who are so inclined. The pastries they have in their display case never fail to impress me either. The price is very right, You can get a meal for less than $10. It's carryout only, but there's never a long wait, even with a few other customers in front of you. The two things that kept me from giving this 5 stars: I got a mango beverage there that was past it's expiration date. (Tasted fine, I didn't notice the date until I was done.) and I have stopped towards the end of the night and they've been closed early.

This place is a small wonder. Since I am a South Indian, I love Indian food in general both South and North Indian. Most of the Indian restaurants in Cleveland tend to serve North Indian food that is fully Americanized. There are some places where you can get some Authentic taste on certain dishes but the biggest problem at most places is, the food is darn expensive and full of MSG (Mono Sodium Glutamate). Thank god, I food this place. The food tastes so authentic and good. No MSGs. My favorites are Fish Curry, Egg Briyani, Ginger Pepper Chicken, Samosas, Puffs, Vadas, Dosas, pretty much everything. Calling out all Indians especially south Indians, this place is a small wonder. In love with this place and food. Don't miss Indian food anymore.

I'm sooo glad there is an Indian take out spot by my house. This is specifically South Indian food which I never had until I just tried it. Wow! It was great just like the other reviews stated. The people there are very friendly and helpful with suggestions. Some of their dishes have some kick to them so if your sensitive to spicy foods have them make it mild. I love spicy food so I was even more pleased with this place. Another great thing about this place is the portion-to-price ratio is AWESOME! I can tell I will be stopping by this place frequently!!

I love this place! The food is exceptionally tasty. The proprietor is nice and cheerful. I fully recommend it to those who like south Indian cuisine. Update a couple of months after the first review; Quality is deteriorating fast. If not recovered the place will lose two more stars

Stars: 4- Was somewhat disappointed that they did not offer seating (This restaurant is strictly take out), but the portion size made up for that easily. Every dish is under 10 dollar. Most dishes are 5-7. Our party of 8 ordered 6 dishes and a dozen samosas. Again, the portion sizes were very large for the price. Note however, that a lot of the portion size is the rice. So i was a bit disappointed that there was not as much meat as i expected. The taste, however, is great. Warning, many sauces are pretty spicy. Be forewarned!
